So to draw a line under my 66xx project.  Im sure I’m not alone in finding the heat this year has severely hampered progress with seemingly most of my days off coinciding with the hottest days. Projects that normally take weeks have taken months instead and there are 2 other projects that I hoped to have ready for Stafford that won’t get done.

Anyway, last time I mentioned there would be a little more on the AWS gear in this post.  On these locos because of the long overhang its really obvious and with nothing seemingly suitable from the trade a bit of brass fiddliness ensued based on a drawing I did using photographs. And here is the result.  In my research I found there are at least 2 slightly different designs on the 66xx tanks. It would have been easier to build it from plasticard but I figured where it is, its likely to get bashed and opted for mostly brass for the strength.

My chosen prototype 6683 was, I found, actually in lined BR green although you can’t tell that from all but one of the photos I found of the loco.  Lining is from Fox transfers and the numberplates from Light Railway Stores.  I decided to take an image of the loco before I covered it in goo for prosperity. Images of the weathered loco in its new home are below.
