My Kirtley project has reached the stage that its ready for primer. Buffers are from Lanarkshire models whilst the whistle and safety valves are from Markits. I’ve replaced the steps and cab roof with brass.
Rear view. Some Kirtleys had a simple weather hood to protect the crew. It stretched from the cab roof to the tender front. Anyone got any thoughts on how to replicate this? It will need to be flexible.
Could microfibre disposable lens cloths work, like for camera lenses? If you sprayed them they would still have a bit of give on them, and they’d not look overscale
I was thinking that maybe some silk might be the answer.
Very strong, can be died black, could be chalked as well.
Not sure how you would fix it to the locomotive and tender, but where there is a will there is a way!!!!!
Or black bin liner. Give it a coat of Matt varnish? Don’t know whether the varnish would take to the bin liner, but it should certainly be flexible enough.
Good suggestions guys. It doesn’t matter if the material is shiny as it needs to look wet anyway
