Afraid so! The good news is my waffling on about timetables is now complete as the walls at the wolves/derby end are now done.
There are 8 of these boards, each with 16 timetables.
If I do say so myself its starting to get the feel of the place now. ie. grim!
The bad news is I am now thinking about the lights that go under the roof. As these are on all of the time they are going to have to work! Not knowing the best way to do this I built a quick mock up of a section of the ceiling.
the light on the left is just a LED shining through a hole in the foamboard. The one on the right has its ‘section’ lined with foil. The difference is quite marked.
Interesting picture of the lights. Which do you think is the most accurate in appearance? The softened edges of the one on the left ‘feel’ more interesting to me, but I haven’t seen photos of the station concentrating on this.
Will these be the only illumination in this area?
They will need lenses yet John but yes they will be the only illumination. There will be a lot of them so I hope there will be enough light. I guess the next stage is to build up a platforms worth and see what it looks like. At the moment Im thinking the one on the right will be better.
Hmm, lenses will change them again I suppose. The one on the right certainly kicks out more light, and I’m guessing you’ll need it!
Thats my thought too. This is how i’m going to need it to look
Hi Jim, I’m fascinated by your industrious and experimental approach. Just from my subjective viewpoint, I feel the reflected light will be the key criteria in contributing to the atmosphere. Your prototype photo shows a very yellow cast reflected off the platform and fittings and deep shadows. I think the brightness and colour of the leds will be the crucial factor, especially as the leds are at a fixed distance.
Regards Liddy
Do the lighting units on the BRUTE ramps work, Jim?
They don’t. I’m still not sure anyone will be able to see them!
Haha, fair enough! Have you any thought on what season you’ll be portraying BNS in? As sad as I am, I’ve cross referenced your model with the real thing (it’s really rather good), but noticed in winter the platforms get wet and dirty.
It’s funny you say that as my thoughts have been on something similar this week. Not the season as such but the weather. The timescale is the first half of 1987 but really it should be the first 3 months as the class 25s were gone in march.
Apparently there were 12 days of lying snow in brum during the january but I dont want to do snow. I’m thinking of dry but puddles. I might do an experiment.
Hi Jim,
Can’t wait for the roof to be on – mouth watering in anticipation! Will you include the overhead wires on this section or do you plan to have these independent from the roof? Should imagine the incorporation of all the OHLE will be very tricky with such a complex layout.
