You may remember the discussion on improving the Lima 101 turned to the windscreen problem as this is the only area (at least in the body) where the Bachmann model scores over the Lima one. Well a kind-hearted soul sent me some window frames to fix the Lima model and the results are presented below.

I was never that put out by the Lima windscreens but side by side it’s quite a difference.

Wow, certainly competes with the Bachmann version in terms of improvements that can be done to the Lima model! Who supplies the frames?5

Hello Jim,

That looks really excellent. I never liked the Lima/Hornby windscreens as they were too long. Only really noticeable on the all yellow fronts. NSE and RR ones with the black surrounds masked the problem.

Fitting these etches have now put the Lima? Hornby body well ahead of the Bachmann offering – I’d love to mine. Is the etch commercially available?

Best regards,

Vivian

Jim,
Nice to see how the “new” windscreen frames look on your Lima/Hornby 101. The frames that I had were obviously etched to the wrong size, hence the need for a spot of “cutting and shutting”. If there is a demand for these accurately sized frames, you are probably in the best position to etch them yourself. IIRC I gave you the dimensions, but if you need any more detail please get back to me.

Oh – and apologies for having to make you re-work all of those incorrectly-sized windscreens 😉

I’d be interested in a few sets of Met Cam windscreen etches if you go ahead and make them available to the masses.

Might be enough to get my Scottish 1975 DMU built under way at last.

Jim,
I’ve been able to take a few photos and measurements of the Met Cam windscreens at the North Norfolk Railway over the weekend. I can forward these to you at full size if they are useful to you and help to ‘push’ you towards doing an etch. Couldn’t measure the destination box but I’m sure someone with you’re knowledge of graphics programs should be able to work out a close enough size from photos.
